Gilded Coffin of Tutankhamun to Undergo Restoration Ahead of Grand Egyptian Museum Exhibition

Egypt's Ministry of Antiquities has announced that renovations on the gold-plated wooden tomb of Tutankhamun, which was recently moved from its place of burial to the Grand Egyptian Museum.

The Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mustafa Waziri confirmed that the transfer of the coffin was made after the approval of the Standing Committee of Egyptian Antiquities, to carry out what will the first and only restoration work on since its discovery in 1922.

Director general of archaeological affairs at the Egyptian Grand Museum, Tayeb Abbas, stated that he tomb is going to be exhibited in the Golden King Tut collection, alongside other golden coffins, currently in the Egyptian Museum of Liberation. The project is estimated to take eight months.
