Rod al Farag

The biggest bridge crossing the Nile River, the Rod al-Farag Axis Bridge is soon to be inaugurated with a total length of 16.7 kilometers, and width of 64.8 meters. According to Egypt Independent, the mega project is soon to be featured on Guinness World Record as the widest suspension bridge in the world, surpassing the current title holder, a Canadian bridge with a width of 64.2 meters.

The Rod al-Farag Axis is made up of five different bridges, connecting Shoubra, Waraq, and the Ring Road, and it constitutes one of the biggest projects ever executed by the National Network of Roads. Once inaugurated, commuters and drivers from the capital's eastern areas, like Nasr City and Heliopolis, can cross through to Sheikh Zayed and Alexandria Desert Road with no need to go through central Cairo, which is to lift huge pressure off of Downtown Cairo and October Bridge.
